I went ice-skating for the second time in my life yesterday. Crocker Park has been built up quite a bit since last time I was there, and for the winter months they put up a skating rink. My son, Leah and I had a great time. We spun each other around in circles, wiped each other's noses off, and did all kinds of silly things. There was an ice sculpting competition going on, so after the skating we walked around and checked that out. In the middle of one of the boulevards there is a giant chess set, with the King piece almost as big as my son. We stopped for a "quick game" (i.e. five seconds to a move), which I thought would only be a few moves. However, he played so well that the game went all the way to the end, which was a stalemate. Impressive.

A while back I whipped up a quick supper for my son and he said to me, "Wow. Dad, you could be an Iron Chef!" And I felt great.

His comment today? "It kinda like a workout for your mouth."

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
